Innovation is vital to economic growth, job creation, and the UK's path out of recession. But our attempts to understand the benefits of innovation in the UK and to encourage more of it have been hampered by how we measure it. Traditional measures, such as R&D expenditure and patent activity, provide an incomplete picture of how innovation occurs. NESTA’s Innovation Index is designed to address this. It aims to measure the amount of innovation of all types that occurs in the UK and its contribution to productivity and growth. It also provides a framework for assessing innovation at a firm level, and the wider conditions for innovation in the UK. Please join us for breakfast on the 26th November as NESTA launches the pilot version of the Innovation Index. Lord David Currie, Chair of the Index Advisory Board will introduce the project and Stian Westlake, Executive Director of NESTA's Policy & Research Unit will present the findings. Sir John Chisholm, NESTA's Chairman will moderate. Registration and refreshments will open at 08:00 with presentations to start promptly at 08:30
NESTA is the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts. We are the largest single endowment devoted exclusively to supporting talent, innovation and creativity in the UK. Our mission is to transform the UK’s capacity for innovation. We invest in early stage companies, inform innovation policy and encourage a culture that helps innovation to flourish.
